Position Overview

Health Care Aid/Personal Support Worker
Performs those functions which provide for the personal care of residents with an acceptable standard of skill, with a sense of responsibility, and respect for privacy.
Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting changes in the residents' physical and emotional condition. Knows the guidelines of care of assigned residents as outlined in the resident care plans. Gives care according to these guidelines.
Participates in the overall activation process developed by the facility to promote the well being of each resident. This will include awareness of the resident as a whole person considering cultural, spiritual, psychosocial, and restorative needs as well as awareness of activation programs within facility.
Assists in escorting residents to specific programs and activities.
Performs personal care and selected nursing measures to promote comfort and safety for the resident in accordance with our standards of resident care.
Assists with the maintenance of records reflecting each resident-s condition, care and specific treatments. Documents on flow sheets, progress notes and care plans as per system.
Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families and fellow staff, using the appropriate lines of communication. (Works co-operatively with families, including them in resident care needs).
Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, clean environment for residents and personnel.
Shares responsibility for the care of the equipment in the facility and the personal belongings of the residents as assigned.
Specific procedures will be listed on Job Routines and/or assigned by the supervisor. This includes participation in Activation and dining programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications

Must be a graduate of an approved Health Care Aide or Personal Support Worker course or equivalent, as approved by the Director of Care.
Experience in working with seniors in a health care facility.
Good physical and mental health. Demonstrates maturity and tactfulness.
Must be able to communicate in English including written documentation. Has an acceptable standard of behavior and appearance.
Genuine interest in and concern for residents.
