Position Title
Sterile Processing Technician III - Central Sterile Processing (MHB)
Position Overview
Sterile Processing Technician III - Central Sterile Processing - Union position (Mercy Hospital of Buffalo): The Sterile Processing Technician III is responsible for:
- the washing and decontamination of instruments and equipment;
- equipment retrieval, set-up, testing and distribution;
- the washing and decontamination of instruments and equipment;
- equipment retrieval, set -up, testing and distribution;
- house, general and specialty tray assembly, wrapping and sterilization;
- operation, cycle documentation and quality assurance of sterilizers and decontaminators;
- exchange cart, par level cart, case cart and specialty cart inventory and set-up;
- in-stock inventory management;
- sterilization QA in-service;
- tray list and sterile stores location manual updates.
REPORTS TO: Senior Tech and Supervisor of the department
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees Tech 1 and Tech 2 in everyday procedures
SKILLS and EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (minimum):
EDUCATION Requirements:
- High School Education.
- Certified Central Processing.
EXPERIENCE Requirements:
- Technician (CBSPD) with five (5) years surgical tray and case cart experience.
or
- Certified Operating Room Technician with one (1) year Sterile Processing experience, required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITY:
- Lifting trays; walking; standing for periods of time.
- Operating equipment, pushing and pulling carts and equipment, reading, writing.
- Communication skills, interpersonal.
- Computer skills:
o AS400
o ORSOS
o Word, Excel
- Data Entry (Ex: Tray List)
- Manual Dexterity required.
- Analytical ability to interpret data and draw conclusions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Medium to high level of stress; ability to concentrate on task under disruptive conditions; work environment change due to nature of workflow.
- Exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Required to wear protective personal apparel as appropriate.
- Exposure to disinfecting chemicals.
